A caring community of God's People

Easter At First Presbyterian

You will see the blackdraped wooden Cross on the front lawn of the church during HOLY WEEK.

A Service of Communion and Tenebrae is held at the Maundy Thursday service, the Thursday before Easter, at 7:00 pm.

Tenebrae literally means "darkness".  The service commemorates the suffering and death of Christ, progressing from light to darkness.   This service is presented in such a way that you feel you are there as Christ carried the cross that he was to be nailed upon.

On Easter Sunday, the Cross is covered with fresh flowers (see pictures below) brought by
members and placed on the Cross before going into the church to worship and celebrate the Risen Lord.
